The Brooklyn Nets are a professional basketball team based in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. The team was founded in 1967, and originally played as the New Jersey Americans in Teaneck, New Jersey, before relocating to Brooklyn. Later, the team returned to play in the New Jersey state as the New Jersey Nets.
Throughout their history, the Brooklyn Nets have played in eight different venues. Their current home, the Barclays Center, is their eighth. Before the Barclays Center, the Nets played at the Teaneck Armory during the first season of the American Basketball Association. When the team moved to Long Island in the following season, they adopted the Brooklyn name.
The 1976-77 season was a disaster for the Brooklyn Nets. After Archibald broke his foot in January, the team was regarded as a lost cause. The Nets went on to finish 22-60. That February, they broke a team record by starting an all-left-handed starting lineup.
After Kidd's return, the Nets began the season 2-11. Even with Kidd, the outlook was not good. However, they made a big trade to land Vince Carter. In exchange for Eric Williams, Aaron Williams, and draft picks, the Nets acquired Vince Carter. This trade helped them rebuild their roster and eventually make the playoffs.
Despite their success in the past, the Nets have yet to win the NBA title. The franchise came closest to winning the championship in 2014 and 2021, but in both cases, the team failed to win the championship. They have had many great players, but have yet to reach the NBA Finals.
In the 2003-2004 season, the Nets made history by reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time. After beating the Charlotte Hornets four games to one, they faced the Western Conference Champion San Antonio Celtics. While the Nets lost the first two games of the series, they were tied with the Spurs after the first four games. In the third game, they led by 21 points but were beaten 94-90. The game was played on Memorial Day in Boston.
