UFC Returns to China with a Stellar Event
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is making its grand return to China, announcing UFC Fight Night Shanghai scheduled for December 9. The event will take place at the newly renovated Shanghai Indoor Stadium, promising an unforgettable experience for MMA fans.
A Showcase of Asian MMA Talent
The upcoming event is set to feature the finals of the second season of "Road to UFC," a knockout tournament designed to spotlight the burgeoning talent in Asian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Four final bouts are slated for the preliminary card, each carrying high stakes. Winners of these bouts will be awarded coveted UFC contracts, marking a significant milestone in their professional careers.
A Historic Return
This event marks the fourth time the UFC has hosted an event in mainland China and the second in Shanghai. It underscores the UFC's commitment to nurturing the sport in the region. A lineup of Chinese fighters is expected to feature prominently in the event, further emphasizing the growth of local talent in the MMA scene. However, the headlining bout remains unconfirmed as of now, adding an element of suspense.
Strategic Partnerships Fueling Growth
"Endeavor China's partnership with UFC has been instrumental in the rapid growth of MMA in China, and we are proud to play a role in serving passionate combat sports fans across the country," said Sum Huang, CEO of Endeavor China. This sentiment reflects the importance of strategic partnerships in expanding the reach and impact of the sport.
Building on Past Success
Kevin Chang, UFC's senior vice president and head of Asia, expressed his enthusiasm about the forthcoming event. "Building on our successful debut in Shanghai in 2017, we are excited to bring another sensational event to the city and highlight the promising new wave of UFC athletes representing our country inside the rejuvenated Shanghai Indoor Stadium," he stated.
Chang fondly recalled the inaugural UFC Shanghai event in 2017, which was a historic evening that broke records and announced UFC's arrival in mainland China. "We can't wait to put on another incredible show for our passionate fans and showcase the next generation of UFC athletes from the country," he added.
A Fitting Venue
The choice of venue, the Shanghai Indoor Stadium, holds special significance. As Chang explained, "To be able to host this event back where it all started, in this incredible city where we are headquartered and have made significant investments to change the sport, is a fitting way to write the next chapter of the growth of MMA in China."
Presented by Rio Strong, a sparkling wine brand, UFC Fight Night Shanghai promises to be an exhilarating spectacle, ushering in the next era of MMA in China.
